One of the biggest premiers of this year was "Beauty and the Beast". Before It was released in cinemas, it had became a big occurrence in Russia!
Not because of Emma Watson, who plays the main role in the film, or because it's another remake of Disney which we had been waiting for a long time. No! It's because of a small "gay" line.
To the best of your knowledge, there's an "anti-gay propaganda' law in Russia, which means that that kind of film is not allowed to be shown in the cinema.
Now and again, you watch some reports on TV about the LGBT rights in Russia and most of us are really disappointed with the current situation there. In fact, it means that gay people aren't able to do lots of stuff as a gay person in Europe. I'm not talking about "big things" like a gay marriage for example, but also small stuff of things which are not allowed by the government at all (walking hand by hand and to give a kiss to someone of the same gender).
They also use the "anti-gay propaganda" law as a pretext to ban gay pride events. For example, when people try to organise a gay pride and get together on the streets, the police has the right to arrest them because of that law. How ridiculous!
However, what can we expect from Putin's government when they decriminalised homosexuality in 1993 and only in 1999 lifted " homosexuality's" classification as a mental illnesses.
The other thing I don't understand is a Russian government notion. Putin said that it's a choice to be a gay. However, a lawmaker of "anti-gay propaganda", Vladimir Medinsky said it's an illness. Guys, please, formulate one notion about that question! However, in my opinion, you are both wrong.
Finally, what I absolutely don't understand is how stupid they have to be to forbid relationships between the same gender while they allow us to see a love between Belle and the Beast! Jesus Christ!
I think it's the way the Russian government thinks: after watching a film with a short gay moment, the boys and girls are going to turn gay. Is the government not afraid that after watching this film, the children are going to kiss their pets and maybe turn bestial? It's annoying. How can these people manage a country?
